I wanted a way to draw out the property on screen — where the coop is, where the garden beds go, where we might put the new fence. Something between a sketch on graph paper and proper CAD software. So there's a canvas where you can place buildings, draw fences and paddocks, and move stuff around with your actual satellite photo underneath.
If you put in your homestead's coordinates, it overlays a satellite photo of your actual property. Really helps with getting proportions right — you can see where things actually are instead of guessing. You can toggle it off if it's distracting.
You can add houses, barns, coops, sheds, greenhouses, wells — all the usual stuff. They go on the canvas with a label and you can resize, rotate, and drag them wherever. There's a toolbar on the side, you just click what you want and it appears.
Fences, ponds, and paddocks aren't rectangles, so you can draw them as freeform shapes by clicking points on the canvas. Trace along your fence line, outline a pond, mark out a field. Works a lot better than trying to make everything fit into boxes.
If you place a garden on the layout, you can link it to the actual garden planner where you manage individual beds and plantings. So you've got the bird's eye property view here and the detailed bed-by-bed view over there — same garden, two levels of detail.
Scroll to zoom, drag to pan around. Everything saves automatically as you move things — there's no save button you have to remember to click.
